As Saul Bellow once wrote, we live in a beautiful wicked world. Despite significant strides since the U.S. civil rights movement, racism, classism, bigotry and bias continue to oppress and harm. And as Mandela, Dr. King, Audre Lorde, and others have so perceptively noted, the persons being harmed are all - the bigot's life is lessened and limited, and the whole community's welfare depreciated. |
